Can't Think of a Title

I've been thinking a lot about the stupid video of those kids singing the Obama 'Hope' song, especially as I've read the Rigid Right's comments re it on various blogs and religulous websites. I thought it was stupid and misguided, but the comparisons to the Communists and the Nazis are laughable. The world--this country in particular--is full of opportunistic parents who would involve their kids in such a scenario. But we're not teaching this song in our schools, etc.

How 'bout this? How about we stop brainwashing our kids altogether? And while we're at it, why don't we stop exploiting them and allowing them to exploit themselves? Whether it's to promote god, the flag, ideology, a product, or a team?

In other words, we've got bigger fish to fry:

Don't know if you guys read The Wave by Todd Strasser in grade school, but it was about a high school teacher who answers his students' question about how the Holocaust could happen by experimenting with making his students wear SS-like arm bands and chanting things like "Strength through Discipline." Anyway, the experiment goes awry because the kids start really acting like fascists.
Something always was strange to me about Obama's logo, and today, I remembered what it is. It's eerily similar to the arm bands the kids wear on the cover of The Wave. Then I saw the video of the creepy kids singing in lockstep about Obama. I think I've been working too many hours, but I'm getting paranoid :)

On a similar note, did you see the article on MSN today, sayin' parents want to pull yoga out of public schools 'cause it might have a Hindu influence on our kids? What the HELL is wrong with this country? Apparently, upward and downward facing dog are 2 of the 3 faces of Cerberus, guardian of Hades, or something demonic like that. WISE UP PEOPLE! Stretching and stress relief-good....banning shit that you're too stupid to understand-bad....
I agree with Tania. We've been fitted for our armbands long ago, we just never knew when it was.

I think the point that you may have missed in the criticism of this exercise is that it reeks of fascism. Fascism is a concept linked closely to nazism which is why people have such a visceral reaction to it. Fascism, conceptually, is not necessarily "evil;" it just seems that history has shown us that most people who embrace fascist ideology use it for evil purposes. From that vantage point, it is understandable why some people might have such strong feelings about this, especially, if they believe that government should be SMALLER, have less power, stay out of our pocket-books and stay out of our bedrooms and not be our SAVIOR.

Are you kidding, Mary?! I didn't miss anything.

Historically, Fascists have banned abortion, banned sex ed, and given incentives for women to stay home (not work) and raise large families. They have promoted militarism and a culture of macho. Multiculturalism has no place. Neither does homosexuality.

Who does this sound like?
