Friday Nostalgia

When I was in elementary school, Clutch Cargo would be on in the early mornings while I was getting ready to catch the bus. It didn't matter that it made me want to puke up my Quisp, I watched it anyway, the way I'll watch ants eat a worm on the sidewalk. Thanks to that new-fangled Syncro-Vox, those real human lips, red and wet, poking through the illustrations, were the only animation.

It was disgusting. And awesome.

What planet did you grow up on?

what the HELL is Quisp?

Tania Rochelle said...

Biggy, I often ask myself that same thing.

Mary, the answer to the question lies within the question itself. In other words, click on the f'n link!

Mary, forgive her. She's older than us.

once again, we have another friday nostalgia that i know nothing about. these aren't even things you could benefit from knowing as a contestant on "jeopardy."

OR you guys could thank me for expanding your world, enlarging your experience...

You've even lost me on this one. I've never even heard of Clutch Cargo and I thought I was pretty damn savvy on my nostalgia television.

This show is so obscure even Jorie Graham would approve. ;)

Tania: I did click on the f'n link and I still have no f'n clue what the hell Quisp is. Are you channeling Hank this morning?

Quisp was a cereal that tasted just like Captain Crunch.

Shaped like little flying saucers.

i would like it better if you talked about captain caveman instead of clutch cargo. and speaking of sugar cereals as a kid is a sore spot. we weren't allowed to have anything like that in our house. but i'm pretty sure quisp wasn't even being made anymore at that point.

T, you really ought to slant your nostalgia to the younger demographic of your readers. I can consult you on what nostalgia we're familiar with.

biggy: i'm pretty sure that any hope you might have had of an upcoming "date night" just went out the window with that comment. she might even stop shaving and showering.

This coming from a man who still listens to The Smiths.

dude, the smiths are awesome. who doesn't love "girlfriend in a coma" or "some girls mothers are bigger than other girls mothers?"

Biggy and Minus-Five, a match made in heaven.

Mary Campbell said...

Hang on...the Smiths kick ass...I think you are outnumbered here Tania.

i don't think it counts if she's outnumbered on her own blog. she kind of clarified earlier on the phone that she doesn't mind them, she just doesn't like them played in a row for hours on end. and i don't either. like dave matthews. they can get old. but dispersed throughout a playlist, they're good. otherwise, you would probably commit suicide.

do you people ever work?

I LOVE "some girls mothers are bigger than other girls mothers".

As your contemporary, I appreciate this post --- Clutch Cargo was fun and a little creepy. It's hard to believe we even have the brain cells left to remember the show though since we're SO OLD...

Hooray, Kathy!!!

Kathy's got my back.

Mamoo, I thought you had Fridays off...

Did you go in just to read my blog?

They had Quisp at the grocery store when I lived in Madison, WI. There is apparently a huge following for it according to the tracking site. As far as Clutch...yeah. I have no idea.

you know you gave kathy some cash for her comment.

Jesus did you forget about Spinner and Paddlefoot. With out those guys Clutch would have no where to go. His jaw was the greatest. No Quisp's here just Frosted Flakes

Birddog

Didn't forget the two sidekicks. Just can't overwhelm these little babies here.

I figure if they're adventurous enough, they'll click on the links and learn something about the cartoons, sitcoms, teen idols, and stars who helped shape my ideals and vision for the world, including--of course--Spinner and Paddlefoot.

Hey! I'm old! I remember those lips. They were like worms or smiling, glossy vaginas. Eeek!

Funny how no other toons picked up on this type of "animation". Tommy used to watch them all the time.
