
An old theory holds that there are only 36 possible dramatic situations. I tell my students that--if we just go with the premise--the only thing that could possibly make a story interesting or fresh or different is their own unique voices and perspectives--the very particular details they alone can bring to the page.
Then I offer this example.

great link - plus we have to remember that George Lucas picked Joseph Campbell's brain (or a tiny part of it) as he wrote the original Star Wars trilogy
