Qualifications
I have a great appreciation for all the various ways people make a living. Whenever I hear anyone make derogatory comments about, say, garbage men or fast food workers, I set them straight: "Never put anyone down for doing honest work. They deserve your respect." I've been around enough crooks who appear to have legitimate jobs or businesses that I admire those who choose the hard and narrow path.
With all that said, though--my disclaimer of sorts--I have to share my thoughts about these folks who dress in costume and stand by the street to promote income tax services or close-out sales or sub shops:
Is there any job in the world that requires LESS in the way of qualifications than that one?
I'm pretty sure you could be dead and propped against a sign post.

the prez??
you HAVE to drive by the District at Howell Mill's Bank of America!!!! Funniest "sign-holder dude" ever!!!! He is so entertaining, it's almost worth getting stuck in Howell Mill's rush hour traffic to see.
so there is a guy who stands on the corner of coho (colonial homes) about one weekend a month. he dresses in a very dapper golfing outfit (short plaid pants and hat w/ puffy thing on top). he stands there talking on his cell phone, while waving an american flag, AND holding a sign saying "now leasing." its really quite an amazing feat. every time i pull into the complex he waves me on in with a really excited grin on his face. it makes me sad because i think that he thinks he's done his job and recruited a new potential resident. in reality, i might have boycotted living here if i'd known about this absurdity.
Gaga, I've seen that guy. He is pretty funny. Also, I picked up that last box of contacts so your man servant doesn't need to.
Oh, he means your OTHER manservant.
I don't know. It's not just anyone who can set aside all self-respect to grovel for a little attention and a buck in such an abject fashion, pandering to the thought-free masses. Prezent Prez definitely qualifies, yeah.
From About.com "Early Hollywood Years: Before landing acting parts, Brad Pitt held a series of odd jobs, including wearing a chicken suit to hawk El Pollo Loco fast food".
Hmmm...
Ha! There's a Thursday thing you might not know.
Damn, I guess I do have quite the affinity for man-servants, now that I think about it....
And I think this job would be awesome, if you could wear a mask and no one could see you. Just plug in your i-pod and have at it. Plus, mom, I think you agree. You'd get paid to burn calories.
It's certainly a job you could elevate to "profession." But, my point is, other than willingness, nothing else is required.
I thought about it again on the way home today. I said to myself, "Well, you'd have to be able to change clothes," but then I realized someone else could actually do that for you. You don't absolutely have to be able to hear, see, talk, read, walk, dance, cook, pick anything up, dial a phone in case of emergency, count, fold, sweep, touch anyone, be nice... It doesn't matter if you're ugly or pretty, fat or thin...
You have to be motivated and responsibile enough to show up to work? and humble enough to know that you have to do that to suport your family....if you want to get technical.
You have to know which direction to face, so someone will see it.
Other than that, I'm sure this is a... "It's all we got, take it or leave it."...kinda job.
I agree with Button. This is how the prez should ask for money for for his "cause".
