Conversation In The Car
JackMan: ...anyway, that guy is such a douche!
Lo: Douche?! What's a douche?
JackMan: Lola! Don't say that; it's a bad word!
Lo: [looking at me] Is it?
TR: Naw.
Biggy & Jack together: YES!!!!
TR: It's a perfectly good word that's been hijacked.
Lo: What does it mean?
TR: It's just a special soap a woman uses to clean her vageena [that's how my girls pronounce it, with a hard 'G'], but, actually, doctors say it's not a good idea to use it. A woman's body cleans itself naturally...
JackMan: SHUT UP! Lo, don't ever say that!
Lo: Douchedouchedouche!
JackMan: Greg!
Biggy: Lo, don't.
JackMan: Mom, she's going to go to school and say that word and get in trouble, and it's going to be all your fault.
TR: No, it's going to be YOUR fault...Lo, it's a word like tampon--not something you want to go around calling people or really talking about on the playground. OK?
Lo: All right.

nice.
I think it'd be hilarious to call someone a tampon on the playground!
People still call each other douches? How 1980s. Were you on the way home from a band event when this happened?
Collin, your commentary is so avant garde, I'm not sure whether I like it or I'm disturbed by it.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah.
I only asked because JackMan's band uniform is straight out of the 80s...there's been a lot of that going around.
I'm still trying to figure out what was avant garde about Collin's comment.
For some more 80's avant garde-ness, remember these statements?
Gag me with a spoon!
Bag your face!
and... DoucheBAG
When I saw Summer's Eve commercials as a kid, all I knew is that it had something to do with "girly stuff" and I figured it had something to do with being pregnant. Then I would hear the phrase "birds and the bees" and figured that being pregnant had to do with flowers because the Summer's Eve women always were around flowers. Men would bring women flowers on dates and when they wanted to make up after an argument or when it was an anniversary. And I'd hear that sometimes a pregnancy was a surprise, right? Like when the woman tells the man in cartoons by knitting a little sweater or socks. They must have been too close to flowers. Logically, Women + Flowers = pregnant. I was a little scared of boquets of flowers because even then I knew I never would want to be pregnant. I still am a little afraid of flowers.
that is some pretty good parenting, Tania. I like that honesty and keen observation. Make it educational, I like that, and it seems Lola understood it too.
Amy, that cracked me up. I thought you could get pregnant from kissing at the movies, but I can't trace back the various connections that led to that belief.
Jason, thanks! Coming from the man PC has voted Father of the Year that means a lot.
again, this conversation would have never taken place in my household. i am unable to relate to any of this.
